What Now? The Strange Afterlife of Collections”
May 16, 2022
Speaker: Rod Shene
About the presentation: In “What Now? The Strange Afterlife of Collections,” Rod Shene will address the practical concerns and problems of the evaluation and dispersal of collections, with a focus on rare and collectible books, as well as related materials, such as manuscripts, diaries, documents, and correspondence. Large, and even small, personal libraries can reflect a lifetime of collecting or solely mirror a generational accumulation. Mr. Shene will offer a bookseller’s insight into the many questions involved in responsibly and successfully resettling a library, whether to family members, appropriate institutions, auction houses, or to a bookseller and a new generation of collectors, all of which will need to be accomplished by family and advisors within an ever-changing marketplace where a Harry Potter 1st edition recently sold for nearly a half million dollars.
